Ooops…. a cheetah….

When I looked to update our blog today (yes I know it’s been a while since I updated it) I wondered where the last 12 weeks had gone.

I think it would be fair to say that for nearly half of this time our lives revolved around scouting and the expedition Gavin led to Namibia for St Albans District Scouts.

The expeditions we run aren’t holidays.. they are experiences!! And this year the experience involved seeing a cheetah hunt in Etosha National Park. This is a rare occurrence as there are only 85 cheetah in Etosha.

I still haven’t looked through all the photos Gavin or members of the expedition have taken (and I’ve got 15,000 to look at!) , but there was one photo I wanted to really see and if you look carefully you can see the cheetah….

So this is the first post of many, to catch up with what we’ve been up to.. as whilst Gavin was away I was busy photographing babies and weddings!

Cute Baby Alert!!

This blog post isn’t going to be long, because it could quite easily turn into a gushing dialogue about cute babies and their proud parents!

What I will say though is that I absolutely love photographing babies, especially as we are capturing moments that will be lost within a few weeks.

When we capture images like those below, I personally keep wanting to look back at them because they make me smile and I feel like I’ve already started to capture the little one’s personality.

And I get to smile a bit mor, as I’ll be photographing this cute little one again in a few months time, as I capture those key milestones of his first year!

The wedding of Lucy and Ernie | Woodlands Park Hotel, Surrey

When we photographed Lucy and Ernie’s pre-wed shoot at their wedding venue, Woodlands Park Hotel in Surrey, we new their day was going to be special.

On the pre-wed we walked around the hotel with Lucy explaining the details they had planned for their wedding day.. the colours, the heart of drinks, the important people who they were sharing their day with… well we knew it was going to be a wedding to remember.

As we offer a bespoke photography service, Lucy and Ernie were able to choose 5 hours of photography coverage. Now 5 hours may not sound much, but the timings of their wedding day allowed us to cover getting ready to the first speech.

Now Lucy and Ernie’s beautiful handmade Queensberry album has arrived and has been delivered, it’s now time to share the story of their day.

A pre-wed shoot around St Albans Cathedral

A pre-wed shoot is a chance for our clients to get to know us, and for them to get comfortable in front of the camera. It really does help on a wedding day not to be photographed by strangers.

We always ask our clients where they want their pre-wed shoot to be. If a couple is comfortable in their surroundings then they relax quicker. And for most couples we start a pre-wed shoot at their house, the ultimate ‘safe’ place. For Sarah and Oliver, however, they knew they wanted their shoot on location!

So on a Saturday morning, we met them at Starbucks for a quick coffee before heading into the grounds of St Albans cathedral. Working our way around the cathedral we used various back drops to create a collection of images for Sarah and Oliver.

And today we are heading to Berkshire to photography  Sarah and Oliver’s wedding, and it will be a fabulous day.

A bride and groom who will always make me smile…..

I remember last year listening to a message that Sarah’s Dad left us, wanting to talk to us about photographing his daughter Sarah’s & her fiancée Bugsy’s wedding. I remember smiling.

I remember when Gavin and I met them, to discuss their wedding plans, and the ideas they had. I remember how they looked at each other excitedly smiling. I remember smiling too.

I remember meeting up with them on a cold Sunday morning to do their pre-wed shoot. The bride, the groom and the bride’s horse were all there. I remember coming away from the shoot smiling.

And today we received a thank you card, and as soon as I turned it over and saw it was from Sarah I smiled.

The images below are taken from Sarah and Bugsy’s pre-wed shoot (the wedding ones will follow, but Sarah & Bugsy have to see them first!).

Sarah and Bugsy are a couple who we’ve loved to get to know, and each time I remember them I will always smile.

Baby, it’s time we start to work out where May went!

I can’t believe that it’s June already and May has gone in a blink of an eye. To be honest I’m not surprised as Gavin and I have been in the full swing of baby, pre-wedding and wedding sessions, viewings and a county show, leaving us little time to actually sit down and reflect on all our clients who have invited us into their lives to capture those moments that are often gone to fast.

So first off is a few photos of Catherine and her gorgeous little ones. You’ll be seeing more of these three throughout the year as Catherine booked three shoots with us to show the milestones of her youngest.

Like all our photography, we come out to our clients which we feel is especially important with babies. This means that you don’t have to gather up all the baby paraphernalia, and then have the added stress of hoping that your little one is on form for a specific period of time. We allow time within your session to deal with those things babies always seem to time so well…feeding, changing… you don’t have to worry, we will not be clock watching. As parents ourselves we really do understand.

A time lapse photography Easter egg hunt!

Happy Easter!!

Gavin and I are off to shoot a beautiful wedding today, so our Easter celebrations with our little ones have had to be split up this weekend.

On Friday, my youngest sister did an Easter egg hunt for them, and as we went around the garden occasionally helping them find the eggs, I thought it would be an interesting experiment to see if I could create a time lapse of the searching.

Now I should have had a tripod, and some even suggest a timer which will take the shots for you automatically at set intervals, but with nothing to hand I had to endeavour to stay still i and click the shutter at approoximatley the same intervals.

So this is my first experiment into time lapse photography and I’m sure more will follow.

Hope you all have a fab Easter!

Lucy & Ernie’s Pre Wed Shoot

With all the sunny weather about currently, it’s hard to think that we were recently still wrapped up in coats and scarves.

Luckily for us, our clients will venture out into the cold (some even into the wet!) for their pre wedding shoot. The shoot is so that we can get to know our clients better, they get to know how we shoot and most importantly they learn how to relax in front of the camera.

Lucy and Ernie asked for the pre wed shoot to be at the Woodland Park Hotel near Cobham, where their wedding was being held and we had an enjoyable (if cold) couple of hours.
